Nyacol Nano Technologies offers Nucleating Agents for Polypropylene:
NGS 1000 & NGS 2000

NYACOL HAS INTRODUCED NUCLEATING GRADE SILICA – NGS 1000 and 2000 – two additives that provide controlled nucleation of polypropylene using surface-modified 50 nm silica particles, resulting in a superior balance of properties. These materials are available as a white powder or polymer concentrate.

Based on patented and patent-pending technology, NGS 1000 and 2000 provide increased polypropylene crystallization temperatures (Tc) at low loading levels, allowing increased processing speed and decreased injection molding cycle times. These non-blooming additives provide an excellent balance of properties in a cost-effective manner. In addition to improving the Tc, these two new materials offer improved flexural modulus, increased impact properties and reduced haze.

In film applications, NGS 1000 and 2000 can also enhance the properties of films because they function as high-performance antiblocks.

NGS 1000 is FDA-compliant and is recommended primarily for injection molding applications where the improvements in mechanical properties and cycle times are of particular benefit.

NGS 2000 offers a slightly lower degree of Tc enhancement, but is recommended where increases in flexural modulus or clarity are required. This new product provides enhanced performance over sodium benzoate in a cost-effective additive. NGS 2000 has pending FDA-compliant status and is expected to be approved as FDA-compliant in the near future.

NGS 1000 and NGS 2000 offer technical and economic advantages that cannot be ignored to the PP producer, compounder, molder and film producer.

NYACOL offers Nyagraph Expandable Graphite for Flame Retardant Applications

Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. is now offering a new line of expandable graphite materials. Nyacol's Nyagraph expandable graphite flame retardant additives offer the formulator the following advantages:

  • Halogen-free
  • Low smoke
  • Reduced heat release
  • Non-dripping
  • Reduced toxic gases
  • Forms an insulating layer
Nyagraph is a natural material based on the processing of graphite ore. The additive can be used in polyurethanes, sealants, adhesives, coatings, polymers, rubbers and bitumens.

Nyacol offers a range of products with a variety of properties. Expansion onset temperatures are typically in the 150-200ºC range. Expansion volumes are at a minimum 100ml/g, but can reach levels of 350ml/g.

Nyagraph 249 is used in polyurethanes and sealants. It offers a typical expansion volume of 250ml/g. Nyagraph 35 gives the formulator a smaller average particle size while maintaining an expansion volume of 100ml/g.

Nyagraph expandable graphite can also be used in conjunction with other flame retardants to achieve a synergistic-type benefit.

NYACOL Introduces flame retardant synergist for resins: NYACOL® APE3040

Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. has now introduced a new patented product for use in unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins:

NYACOL® APE3040 is a nonaqueous dispersion of colloidal antimony pentoxide in an unsaturated polyester resin. APE3040 is formulated for use as a flame retardant synergist in halogenated vinyl ester and unsaturated polyester resins.

Nyacol's new technology allows the user to achieve a Class I rating in ASTM E-84 flame-spread tests. It also:

  • eliminates gel time drift;
  • offers translucency in the final composite;
  • is non-settling;
  • reduces the level of cobalt required;
  • provides better penetration and infusion into the substrate;
  • reduces wear on pumps, valves and nozzles; and
  • reduces health, safety and environmental issues caused by concerns with powdered antimony trioxide dust.

This new technology from Nyacol may be used with brominated  DERAKANE® MOMENTUM® resins from The Dow Chemical Company to achieve Class I flame spread fire ratings.

The Dow Chemical Chemical is a leading supplier of epoxy vinyl ester resins.

New NYACOL™ Products
for Thermoplastics

Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. has been the world's leading supplier of colloidal antimony pentoxide for over three decades, serving the flame retardant plastics and textile markets. Nyacol's nano-particle technology has enabled it to offer a range of products to the flame retardant market.

NYACOL INTRODUCES NEW BURNEX™ PRODUCTS FOR THE ABS MARKET:
BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 are two new grades of antimony pentoxide that can be used in combination with a halogen to give improved flame retardant properties to ABS.

Both products offer improved thermal stability and can eliminate silver streaks in injection molding applications. BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 also give an advantage in translucent applications when compared to competitive flame retardant products. BurnEx 846 can be used in highly pigmented formulations. Antimony pentoxide can, in general, reduce pigment loadings by 50% to 75% when compared to high tint antimony trioxide. This advantage results in cost savings and color matching that is more easily achieved.

BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 are available in powder or pelletized concentrate form. Concentrates can be custom-formulated to incorporate a resin designated by the customer.

FOR THE PP MARKET, NYACOL INTRODUCES BURNEX 6215:
Nyacol's BurnEx 6215-60 concentrate contains 60% antimony pentoxide incorporated into a 4-melt flow polypropylene. It offers the user a dust-free, easy to handle option that can improve dispersibility of the flame retardant in film, fiber or injection molding applications.

NYACOL PRODUCES A WIDE RANGE OF INORGANIC COLLOIDAL MATERIALS.
For the plastics market, Nyacol manufactures additives for Flame Retardance, Anti-Block and Abrasion Resistance. Silica-based materials are used for the anti-block and abrasion resistance products. Nyacol welcomes the opportunity to work with customers in developing new nano-sized materials that will solve problems in a cost-effective manner.
