Inorganic UV Absorbers

NYACOL® offers three types of materials as transparent UV absorbers; cerium oxide, titanium oxide and zinc oxide. The materials all offer high transparency in the visible range and UV absorption spectra characteristic of the oxide type. The materials are used in coatings or as additives in films or fibers to control the UV absorption. These materials require careful formulation as they are all capable of generating free radicals which requires use of additives in the formulations or passivation of the inorganic surface.

We offer water based dispersions as the first option and then hydrocarbon based dispersions in some cases for formulating options.

  • NYACOL® TiSol 70-EG 14 10 nm Ethylene Glycol Developed as an inorganic alternative to organic type UV blockers. TiO2 particles dispersed in ethylene glycol, the product is transparent but still UV absorbing as a result of the small, highly dispersed composition. Looking for More Options?

In some cases our standard materials are not suitable for a customer’s particular application, or a different composition is required. In these cases, we will consider a custom development project with our customers. We generally proceed under a Non-Disclosure Agreement and we will do the project in such a way that the material can be readily scaled up.
